WASHINGTON, May 23, 2013 – A recent Voice of America program, featured Taiwan native Bao-chium Jing, who, while pursuing his master’s degree in international studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), interned at Graduate School USA’s International Institute Taiwan Leadership Program. Jing was joined on the television program by masters students from mainland China to discuss their internship experiences in the United States. The program was broadcast Asia-wide and is available to view in Mandarin.

Utilizing his educational and Taiwanese background, Jing was instrumental in supporting the International Institute while they hosted senior officials from Taiwan for an intensive two-week program on “Leadership in a Democratic Society.” The delegates spent time with congressional leaders, think tanks, NGOs, and several U.S. government agencies, with the goal of sharing best practices. The delegates also received training in executive leadership, strategic planning, and communication.

Jing was selected as an intern with the Institute after a competitive selection process. “Bao-Chiun’s background and studies were critical in the success of our International Institute’s Taiwan leadership program,” said Olena Yanakova-Lange, Program Manager, Graduate School USA. “He facilitated communication, translation and was instrumental assisting the delegates with on-going logistical support.”

Upon graduation from Johns Hopkins SAIS, Jing returned to GSUSA as a consultant to assist with capacity building, governance and educational exchange programs. While his degree prepares him for work in diplomacy, Jing is excited to be working now as a journalist with the Washington Chinese Daily News.
